Low Dose Immunotherapy (LDA/ LDI)
LDI for Autoimmunity and Immune Hypersensitivity
Low dose immunotherapy (LDI/ LDA) is the single most effective tool I have to treat immune overactivity. It is helpful for a range of immune mediated conditions, from simple allergies or hay fever to more complex conditions like mold illness, lyme disease, and autoimmunity. All of these conditions involve an up-regulated immune response; to either the environment, foods, infections, or to the person’s own body. LDI induces tolerance to these allergens- whatever they are.
The first step in the treatment is to determine the patients’ immune trigger, or allergen, causing the reaction. Common allergens include foods, inhalants, chemicals, yeast and certain bacteria. Once we know the trigger, we can induce tolerance to it with the corresponding immunotherapy mix. LDI mixes are made from extremely tiny diluted doses of allergens, so diluted they are perceived as safe when presented back to the body. Immune tolerance starts to develop after each treatment, gradually decreasing the body’s immune reactivity to these agents.
LDA for Allergies
LDA treats all types of allergy- including foods, pollens, dust, chemicals and molds. It is not necessary to do allergy testing, the formulas contain hundreds of allergens and will contain your offending agents.
LDI for Autoimmune Disease
Using immunotherapy for autoimmune disease is one of its most exciting applications. Many autoimmune conditions are thought to have association with certain infections, where specific microbes can initiate an autoimmune response. If we desensitize the body to these infections, using the corresponding immunotherapy mix, we can help restore immune tolerance. Common microbes that can be involved with autoimmunity include Strep, EBV, Mold, Lyme, Klebsiella, and more.
Chronic Infections and Autologous Samples
It is also possible to make personalized ‘autologous’ formulas when a chronic infection is causing immune dysfunction. Samples from the patients own tissues can be used; for example a urine sample from someone with chronic bladder inflammation. These samples are then diluted and filtered, and presented back to the body as an autologous LDI mix, balancing the immune response to these microbes.
LDI for Mold Illness
It is quite common to see mold and other allergies occur following exposure to water damaged buildings. Treating the allergy component with immunotherapy is very helpful, and nicely compliments most mold detoxification programs.
